Event: Thunderpeaks Pinewood Derby
Where: LDS Deer Valley Stake Center 2939 W. Rose Garden Lane, Phoenix
When: Apr 14, 2018 8:30-6:30pm
Help with the Thunderpeaks PWD event. This is an excellent way for our troop to spread goodwill to cub packs and help raise awareness for us for recruiting. It’s also a lot of fun. Please RSVP to Richard Mouer so he knows how many people to expect. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Work is divided into multiple shifts throughout the day, and there is usually a team dinner at a local restaurant after tear-down is complete.

Pack 619 has expressed an interest in our troop, and needs some volunteer help to run their pinewood derby. Location to be updated as soon as I get it.

Just a quick note to let you know of a few service projects.
1) July 18th @ 9am-11:00am Homeward Bound
Homeward Bound is a nonprofit based in Arizona that serves the needs of families going through homelessness. They serve over 130 homeless families every year, providing them with not just housing but an in-depth program that helps them get back their own two feet. We will be meeting in the front parking lot at 9am at 2302 W. Colter Street. Phoenix, 85015. Scouts will be sorting school supplies for this organization. I will be attending and can give rides if needed since it’s during the week. I can fit 4 extra scouts. Please R.S.V.P. asap to me so I can let them know how many are attending. email@example.com
2) July 21st @ 4:00-6:30 The Society of St. Vincent De Paul
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international non-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor and providing others with the opportunity to serve. We need 15 people, scouts and families are welcome, to volunteer in the Family Dining Room on July 21 at 4:00-6:30. We will be serving food, collecting dishes, clearing and cleaning the dinning room. Service Cordinator for troop 619 🙂
Event: Service Project – Replace Sanctuary Lights at CITD
Where: Cross in the Desert Church
When: May 2, 2017 6-7pm
The Chartered Organization has asked us to help them replace all the regular lights in the Sanctuary with LED light bulbs to help reduce energy costs. Please gather in your Class B uniforms on Tuesday, May 2nd at the Church at 6pm. Any questions should be directed to Kevin Joy.

The May campout is going to be the weekend of May 5th through the 7th. If your scout is attending camp geronimo this summer I *highly* recommend they attend this campout for multiple reasons:
1. It will give them an introduction to the camp, where they will be sleeping, and where everything is
2. There is a required service project for attending camp, if you don’t do the service project campout then you need to perform the project at camp which takes away time from doing electives (like the archery or shooting ranges)
We will be leaving from the church friday evening, and returning to the church Sunday around lunch.
Food plans and bunk mates will be coming out soon.

(Entrance is off Pinnacle Peak Road just off Cave Creek)
Parking is difficult, so plan to arrive early and most will need to park along Pinnacle Peak Road and walk in, due to the number of Scouts from across the valley who attend.
The cemetery provides a limited number of pokers and all of the flags, each to be inserted by Scouts at the head of each grave.
This event usually goes quickly, as so many typically attend.
An email went out to everyone on May 23rd with a Sign Up Genius for a picnic immediately following the flag placing at Lookout Mountain Park.

If your scout is interested and you haven’t received Robert’s email (which lists the scouts we know of attending), or if you have questions, call or text him at 623-202-4379 through Friday (today).
Scouts attending must bring a signed permission slip. HERE is the permission slip.
Bob and Robert will meet at the church Saturday morning at 8:00am. All scouts on the email, other than those going up on Friday, should meet at the church then. Travel to Geronimo, conduct service project and some will camp overnight. Bob will return late Saturday.
The project is re-coating the bridge at Webber Creek. We have the supplies.
Returning to Phoenix/Cross in the Desert on Sunday APPROXIMATELY 11:00am. We’ll have carpooling scout/s call their parent about 30 min out from the Church.
